Question: ...left with Atacand being the last hope. Is there anything else I can try?

Answer:

Dear Sufferer in New Zealand:
There are still oxcarbazepine and levetiracetam, which are being tried for bipolar disease here in the States (successfully). I had the first data on both for migraine and chronic refractory headaches. Getting your doctor to prescribe them, or availability, may be a real problem. Once in a blue moon, low dose lithium may be somewhat useful, but I don't generally recommend it. Atacand and tizanidine may be useful agents to try, one at a time, for chronic headaches.
Good luck,
John Claude Krusz
