Question: .story of teenager that died... I'm popping Tylenol sometimes 3 every 4 hours...

Answer:

Dear Amanda,

She took 20 tablets over a period of 12 hours or a bit more.

The way you're taking Tylenol can be dangerous, yes, if you're doing that very often. In addition, using acetaminophen and other analgesics more than two or three days a week can complicate your situation by actually causing headaches called rebound headaches. See:

    Arghhhhh! Rebound Headaches!
You have a headache. Taking medications is one of the logical things to do. There is something to consider before you take that medication though -- the dreaded rebound headaches. They're caused by taking medications too often. Sometimes just taking a drug for two or three consecutive days can cause rebound.
Please see your doctor about more effective and safe treatment.

Dear Amanda:
If your liver chemistry or genetic makeup is fragile, Tylenol can damage liver function severely. Other simple analgesics are also potentially causes for different kinds of problems, but all of them lead to analgesic rebound headaches. Seek out a true headache specialist in your area; you'll be glad you did.
Good luck,
John Claude Krusz
