Ask the Clinician

Question: ...rare form of migraine, prolonged aura/snowy vision...aura status...

Answer:

Dear Scott:
On first thought, I've only heard of this phenomenon once before May I assume that you have had exams by eye doctors? You didn't mention how often you had migraines that accompanied your visual symptoms. One of the neuronal stabilizing agents, lamotrigine, has been published on for frequent auras with very little headache. If an examination by an ophthalmologist turns up nothing, I'd suggest seeking a headache and migraine specialist in your area. Especially with your unusual symptoms, this would be your best bet for answer and effective treatment.
Good luck,
John Claude Krusz
