Question: ...headache every month like clock work right around my period...Migraine?
Answer:
Dear Lynn:
It's impossible to diagnose you via the Internet, but I suggest you get a second opinion. You don't have to experience both sensitivity to light and sound to have Migraines, nor do you have to, "see things before my eyes." That would refer to Migraine aura, and only 20 - 25% of Migraineurs experience aura. It would seem that your doctor doesn't treat a lot of Migraineurs. You should probably make an appointment with a good neurologist or a headache and Migraine specialists. There's a link below to our directory of recommended specialists.
The pattern you describe isn't unusual for Menstrually Associated Migraine (MAM). If you end up with a Migraine diagnosis, this may be quite helpful to you:
Frova
for Menstrually Associated Migraine
Two studies presented at the annual meeting of the American Headache Society
showed that Frova (frovatriptan) is effective as a preventive medication for
menstrually Associated Migraine. Frova does not seem to induce rebound
headaches. It's efficacy is not affected by the use of oral contraceptives.
Good luck,
Teri Robert
