Question: Migraines have returned with onset of menopause...thoughts on acupuncture?

Answer:

Dear Gloria:

Acupuncture is not the first thing I think of therapeutically and it can be expensive and not reimbursed by insurance. Changes in hormonal levels with progression of menopause in women can be related to increased (as well as decreased) migraines. There are a lot of other approaches besides beta blockers to suppress migraine patterns. These might be discussed with your doctor or even a local headache specialist.

Good luck,
John Claude Krusz
