Question: .. menopause...migraines with chills and hot flashes...ideas other than Imitrex?

Answer:

Dear Hormonal Sufferer,

Hormonal Migraines can be some of the most difficult to figure out. Hormone replacement therapy may help or make things worse. There's no way to predict which way things would go, but since your pattern changed as it did with the onset of menopause, it seems that the drop in and/or fluctuation in hormones is absolutely a factor. It's terribly difficult to offer good advice in this situation. The best advice we have is for whomever provides your gynecological care to get together with whomever treats your Migraines, and see if the two of them can come up with a plan that helps you and is acceptable to both of them. Anecdotally, some women have found that Evening Primrose Oil softgels have been helpful with the effects of menopause. You may want to discuss that with your doctors, too.

Good luck,
Teri Robert
