Question: ER diagnosis of Migraine...continuing headache...hormonal?
Answer:
Dear Martha,
I'm confused. You said you woke on March 10 with the headache and vomiting and
still have it two days later. I'm going to assume you meant April 19.
We have absolutely no way of telling you if the possible obstruction could be
causing your pain. That can only be answered by a qualified doctor who is
examining you and reviewing your medical records and those test results.
First, for this current episode, you need to call your doctor first thing
tomorrow and tell him you're still in pain. If you haven't seen a neurologist,
you need to.
You should also know that one episode of severe headache and vomiting is NOT
sufficient for a diagnosis of Migraine. The standard diagnostic criteria, that
of the International Headache Society, for
Migraine without aura is:
A. At least 5 attacks fulfilling B-D.
B. Headache attacks lasting 4-72 hours*
(untreated or unsuccessfully treated)
C. Headache has at least two of the following characteristics:
1. Unilateral location
2. Pulsating quality
3. Moderate or severe intensity (inhibits or
prohibits daily activities)
4. Aggravation by walking stairs or similar
routine physical activity.
D. During headache at least one of the
following:
1. Nausea and/or vomiting
2. Photophobia and phonophobia
E. Not caused by another disorder
This may be a Migraine, but you need to be sure. Please don't take any chances. Call your doctor now. You may also want to make an appointment with a headache and Migraine specialist if you don't get answers that you're comfortable with.
good luck,
Teri Robert
