Question: visual aura Migraines...no headache...unknown triggers...bcp's...stroke risk?
Answer:
Dear knetsel;
What I don't understand from your question is this -- Have you actually been
diagnosed with Migraine disease? Who is telling you about a higher risk of
stroke? If you haven't been diagnosed and aren't seeing a doctor for these
episodes, that's where you need to start.
Depending on the woman and her triggers, any kind of Migraine has the potential to be complicated by birth control pills. Many women have triggers associated with hormonal fluctuations, and find that birth control pills make their Migraines harder to control. Others find that birth control pills make their Migraines easier to control. There isn't one answer. It depends entirely upon the individual.
As for stroke risk, the use of oral contraceptives presents an increased risk of stroke. That should have been in the printed information that came with your prescription. Migraine can also increase the risk of stroke, but in an otherwise healthy individual, that risk is small.
Bottom Line: If you've not been diagnosed and aren't under a doctor's care, you need to be. There are other conditions that can cause similar symptoms, and you need to be sure of your diagnosis.
Good luck,
Teri Robert
