Question: daily headaches/migraines...Rx for nubain or stick with Stadol?
Answer:
Dear Marie;
Nubain is a quite potent drug. Its analgesic potency is essentially equivalent to that of morphine. Although some doctors might prescribe it for home use by patients they've treated for a long time, it's doubtful that it would be prescribed that way because of safety considerations.
As difficult as it may be, with daily headaches and Migraines, you really need to be focusing on prevention and getting away from the daily narcotics. It's entirely possible that daily use of Stadol is adding to your problems by causing rebound headaches. Stadol is known to quite often lead to dependence issues. The prescribing information for Stadol states:
"Physical Dependence, Tolerance, and Withdrawal --Prolonged, continuous use of butorphanol tartrate may result in physical dependence or tolerance (a decrease in response to a given dose). Abrupt cessation of use by patients with physical dependence may result in symptoms of withdrawal."
