Ask the Clinician

Question: MigraLieve on a daily basis... will it help my "hormonal" related migraines?

Answer:

Dear Rachel,

MigraLieve may or may not help with your hormonal Migraines. As with any other preventive, whether dietary supplements or pharmaceuticals, only trying it will tell.

Hormonal Migraines can be quite difficult to manage. If yours are related mostly to your menstrual cycle, this article should be of interest to you:

    Frova for Menstrually Associated Migraine
Two studies presented at the annual meeting of the American Headache Society showed that Frova (frovatriptan) is effective as a preventive medication for menstrually Associated Migraine. Frova does not seem to induce rebound headaches. It's efficacy is not affected by the use of oral contraceptives.

With hormonal Migraines, it can be helpful for your neurologist and gynecologist to consult and discuss different birth control pills and/or other hormonal options, depending on your age and situation.

Good luck,
Teri Robert
