Question: ...pain following surgery for a plugged artery following a stroke...Migraine?
Answer:
Dear Stan:
Your after-surgery pain may be scar-related, as tissues that were cut are trying to heal. This would be a form of what we call neuropathic pain, or pain that is principally generated by too much firing in nerve trunks. Often, this will quiet down by itself in 3-12 months. I'd suggest you consult a pain management specialist, not necessarily an anesthesiologist, as they are most interested in doing nerve blocks and these would have little to offer in this situation. Or, seek a neurologist who is a pain specialist (hard to find in many states).
Good luck,
John Claude Krusz
