Ask the Clinician

Question: bench presses...I suddenly got a terrible headache in the back of my head...

Answer:

Dear Carol,
What you're describing could be an exertional headache, but you need to see your doctor for diagnosis to be sure. If you are having exertional headaches, your doctor can suggest some simple medications to take before your work out.
Good luck,
Teri Robert

Dear Carol:
Teri is right; exertional headaches or migraines are a real issue. Sometimes, the medication that works successfully for migraines can also prevent an exertional headache.
