Question: ...Imitrex...shortly after my head starts to clear, my throat begins to hurt...

Answer:

Dear Nicole,
What has your doctor said about this? Your throat hurting could be a reaction to the Imitrex. Have you tried any of the other triptans? There are now seven on the market -- Imitrex, Zomig, Maxalt, Amerge, Axert, Frova, and Relpax. If you haven't tried other triptans, you might want to ask your doctor about them. Most doctors have samples of triptans. Ask your doctor for samples to try other triptans for a couple of Migraines with each of them. Trying a triptan for one Migraine doesn't tell you as much as trying it for two or more.
Good luck,
Teri Robert

Dear Nicole:
I agree with Dr Robert in trying another triptan preparation. You symptoms are quite unusual for Imitrex or, for that matter, with any triptan. I wonder if the throat symptoms are a part of migraine post-drome.
