Question: ...Endep, when reduced dosage, headaches again. Masking the pain? Take forever?

Answer:

Dear Delreen:
It sounds like you are being treated by amitriptyline, which can have a beneficial effect to suppress migraines. As far as "masking" the pain, you are actually suppressing the migraine pattern. Don't confuse that with "hiding" a pain as with pain medication. No telling how long you may have been predisposed to migraines, and there is no test that can help decide this. The main item is that the headache severity and frequency are better on the medication; you will still have to find migraine-specific therapy for the headaches that break through.
Good Luck,
John Claude Krusz
