  • 1) Can a person have a small stroke that does not show up on an MRI? I am female, just turned 50. Late last December I had an episode where my left side went weak and uncoordinated. In the past, my left leg had gotten heavy with a migraine - but the leg, hand, arm, slight face weakness was a new event. I've needed physical therapy to build up my strength. I had a brain MRI and blood work. My neurologist found no evidence of a major stroke, tumor, brain infection, lupus, MS, Parkinson's disease. In early May, my right arm and leg did the same thing. Another MRI brain & neck was also "unremarkable." An ER doctor told me if I was having a stroke that affected primarily my right hand at that point - that it would involve such a small area of my brain that an MRI would not show it. I do have a 7mm Arnold Chiari malformation that has not increased in size. My life has changed dramatically in late December 2002 - migraines being the least of my problems. I do use propranolol as a preventative medication. I need a cane if I plan to walk very far. I continually drop things because neither hand can grip very well. Is it possible I've had one or two small strokes? I'd just like another opinion.
    Thanks, Jan.

  • 2) I am totally confused! Have suffered with migraines on and off since I was 11, am now 30. Dec., 2001, I started getting cluster migraines and the GP said it was due to wisdom teeth that they had suddenly gone out of control. After ending up in Hospital in March 2002 I was put on Pizofen (Sanomigran) 3mg per day. I was assured that when the teeth came out I'd be fine. I had all the wisdom teeth out 3 weeks ago and have been told by 3 different specialists in the hospital that I can't come off the Sanomigran because the migraines have nothing to do with the teeth. I want to get off the tablets as the side effects of weight gain are depressing me but I don't know what to do. Can you please explain to me how migraine works? Mine always start with me feeling spaced out followed by seeing stars then losing 75% of my vision for about an hour then a blinding headache and nausea that can go on for days. V Taylor.

  • 3) For the past about 18 hours I have been having sharp pains on the left side of my head. It is not constant and did not keep me up last night. They go from my temple up a little. Just wondering if it could be serious. Thanks, Carisa.

  • 4) My son is 320years-old and has been suffering with daily headaches with migraine spikes 2-3 times a week. He is not currently on any medication, and trying to manage his life with the pain. He has tried all the prescription drugs I have seen mentioned on this web site with little or no results. He recently saw and ad for Serenity Now, Lithium Orotate, which claims to help headache pain. Is this for real??? I can't seem to find any information about it except by the so-called Dr. Neiper himself. So I am skeptical. Please let me know if you have anything to report about this product. Bernice..

  • 5) For about 12 years I have had bouts of temporary (usually 30min) limited vision. My sight becomes obstructed by a tiny but expanding puff ball which is outlined by a bright flickering jagged line. This soon takes the shape of a "C" (I can see through the center of the "C") and slowly grows until it is out of my field of vision. I have been told that I may be having migraines without pain. Do you know of any similar episode? I would like your opinion. Thank you, Ed.
